Weekly Events!

Well, I've not yet had a chance to put together the Mock Bus Crash Pictures, but at this rate it would appear as though either tomorrow (Saturday) or Sunday night will be the night.

This week I finally broke down and got a new cell phone. My previous one had been in a state of 'pseudo-brokenness' since mid-January when I accidently broke the antenna piece off (and the remainder of the phone went into three pieces into a large snowbank). Although I swapped cases (took the insides to my phone and the case of an existing (nearly identical model)), the reception was never the same. After missing two calls while at work (which shouldn't have happened since I know I can get (although sometimes a bit weak) a usable signal at the office), I said enough of it and finally went out.

As far as phones go, they all essentially work the same. This one (of course) has nicer features, a larger screen, and is a color-screen phone. There are many very nice features to the phone, and thus far I've enjoyed it. A really nice feature is that it weighs about 1/3 of the old one, and is a little less than half the size. So, I've managed to go from a Pinto to a least when it comes to phones.

I guess the most important thing -- I get decent reception and can make/receive calls from it while at the office (which was the whole point).

Not much else new...

I think that sometime in the next week (after the bus pictures go up), I'm going to finally break down and update my Linux servers to Fedora Core 1. I received yet another reminder email today that RedHat 9 reaches its end-of-support cycle at the end of this month (April 30) it's really time to get on the ball with this.

Aside from that, things are going well. Starting to slow down even more (after Easter at least one more evening per week will be slightly more free)...and all-in-all, life is good. smile

Until next time...

Exciting Sunday

Well, as it turned out, we went to see the mock Bus Crash scenario which was used as a county-wide emergency drill down in Renville on Sunday (28 March). Mostly I wanted to go because it was supposed to be 'the end of the old bus' -- which had been a staple of my parents' yard (in various places) for more years than I can remember.

It turned out (the bus thing) to be a little anti-climactic, mostly because I understood it to be something different (as far as how the bus was depicted) than it was. What it was, however, turned out to be quite interesting. Between a vehicle-bus crash, a rollover (and fire) -- at another location, a car-bicycle collision, and a helicopter landing, it was actually quite an educational experience.

Many pictures were taken (although mostly of the helicopter) -- as of tonight I've resized them. They'll go online hopefully within the week along with a page of story. smile

Aside from that excitement yesterday and some tinkerings of mine at work (namely some neat firewall, users & ftp stuff), it was a typical Monday.

Only real bad part is the weather -- today was just plain cold compared to last week. smile
